Fletcher Creek, referred to by locals as "The Fletcher" is about half an hour north of Charters Towers. A freshwater stream offering free camping by the road, or reserved camping for a small fee in the National Park.
Free camping (no reservation required)
- Toilets and cold showers are available at the bridge.
- Free campsites are available at the Fletcher Creek bridge right on the water's edge.
- Easy access for caravans and camper trailers.
Reserved campsites
More private, reserved campsites are also available away from the main camping area for a small fee.
- Book one of four campsites in the "Dalrymple National Park" via the Queensland Parks website and display your permit at your nominated campsite.
- Signs say 4x4 access is required - the road is good most of the time, but is an unsealed road and if there is even a small amount of rain it can become boggy quickly.
- Sites have picnic tables, but no other facilities.
- Sites 1-3 are on the Burdekin River side high above the river and have beautiful sunset views.
- Site 4 is on the Fletcher Creek side, with easier access to water, though still not right at the water's edge.
- Access to the National Park is over the Fletcher on the right-hand side, down Leichhardt Road
