The Anabranch is a beautiful, fresh water area located less than 20 minutes north of Charters Towers and is perfect for kayaking, sailing, fishing, camping or canoeing.
An "anabranch" is a defined as a stream that leaves a river, in this case the Burdekin River, and re-joins it further along. For much of the year, The Anabranch is cut off from the Burdekin River and in the drier months can completely disappear.
But after a good wet season, when the Burdekin has flushed through fresh water, this is a beautiful spot. The pictures here were taken in May 2020.
This free camping area is offered for the enjoyment of all - please take any rubbish with you.
